Giant Ammonite

An ammonite is one of the coiled chambered fossil shells of extinct mollusks similar in appearance to the modern day nautilus. They are excellent index fossils, and it is often possible to link the rock layer in which they are found to specific geological time periods. The ancient Greeks believed ammonites could cure infertility, snake bites and blindness. This fossils comes from Madgascar and measures approximately 9"w x 7"h x 3 1/2"d.
